She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Zuckerman showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Zuckerman's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking private lessons with renowned violinists and attended the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division. At the age of 16, Zuckerman was accepted into the Juilliard School's undergraduate program, where she studied with Itzhak Perlman. During her time at Juilliard, Zuckerman won several awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition and the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis. She also performed as a soloist with several orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. After graduating from Juilliard, Zuckerman continued her studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied with Jaime Laredo. She also attended masterclasses with renowned violinists such as Pinchas Zukerman and Joshua Bell. Zuckerman's career as a soloist continued to flourish, and she performed with orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. She also performed at major music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival and the Tanglewood Music Festival. In addition to her career as a soloist, Zuckerman was also a dedicated chamber musician. She was a founding member of the Zuckerman Trio, which included her sister, cellist Rachel Zuckerman, and pianist Daniel Lebhardt. The trio performed together for several years, and their recordings received critical acclaim. Zuckerman was also a passionate advocate for music education. She taught masterclasses and gave lectures at universities and conservatories around the world. She also founded the Evelyn Zuckerman Foundation, which provides scholarships and support for young musicians. Throughout her career, Zuckerman received numerous awards and honors, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship. She was also a recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, commonly known as the "genius grant." Tragically, Zuckerman's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at the age of 32. Despite her illness, she continued to perform and teach, inspiring countless musicians and music lovers around the world. Evelyn Zuckerman passed away on June 15, 2018, at the age of 33.
