Fernando Turina was a Spanish classical music artist who was born on January 28, 1902, in Madrid, Spain. He was the son of Joaquín Turina, a renowned Spanish composer, and his wife, Obdulia García-Mansilla. Fernando grew up in a musical family and was exposed to music from a young age. He showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Fernando received his early musical education from his father, who was his first piano teacher. He later studied at the Madrid Conservatory, where he received training in piano, composition, and conducting. He also studied with other renowned musicians, including Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Rodrigo. In 1923, Fernando made his debut as a pianist in Madrid, performing his father's piano concerto. He received critical acclaim for his performance, and this marked the beginning of his career as a concert pianist. He went on to perform in many concerts throughout Spain and Europe, establishing himself as one of the leading pianists of his time. Fernando's performances were characterized by his technical brilliance and his ability to convey the emotional depth of the music. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Spanish composers, including his father's music, as well as the music of Isaac Albéniz and Enrique Granados. In addition to his career as a pianist, Fernando was also a composer and conductor. He composed music for piano, chamber ensembles, and orchestra, and his works were performed in many concerts throughout Spain and Europe. He also conducted many orchestras, including the Madrid Symphony Orchestra and the Spanish National Orchestra. Fernando's career was marked by many highlights, including his performances at the International Festival of Contemporary Music in Venice in 1932 and the World's Fair in Paris in 1937. He also performed in many prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Carnegie Hall in New York. Fernando received many awards and honors throughout his career, including the National Music Prize of Spain in 1952 and the Gold Medal of Fine Arts in 1981. He was also a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel de Hungría. Fernando continued to perform and compose music until his death on December 14, 1984, in Madrid, Spain.
