The Ambache Chamber Ensemble is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with its exceptional performances for over three decades. Founded in 1984 by pianist and conductor Diana Ambache, the ensemble has become a leading force in the world of chamber music, known for its innovative programming and outstanding musicianship. Diana Ambache, who was born in London in 1948, began her musical career as a pianist, studying at the Royal College of Music and later at the Juilliard School in New York. She quickly established herself as a talented performer, winning numerous awards and accolades for her playing. However, she soon realized that her true passion lay in conducting and chamber music, and in 1984 she founded the Ambache Chamber Ensemble. The ensemble's name is derived from Diana Ambache's surname, and it reflects her vision of creating a group that would be flexible and adaptable, able to perform a wide range of repertoire with a variety of instrumental combinations. The ensemble's core members include Diana Ambache on piano, violinist Mary Eade, cellist Jane Salmon, and clarinetist Angela Malsbury, although the group often collaborates with other musicians as well. From the beginning, the Ambache Chamber Ensemble has been committed to exploring lesser-known works by female composers, as well as championing the music of living composers. This dedication to promoting diversity and inclusivity in classical music has been a hallmark of the ensemble's programming, and it has helped to establish the group as a trailblazer in the field. Over the years, the Ambache Chamber Ensemble has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room, and the Royal Festival Hall in London, as well as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Lincoln Center in New York. The group has also made numerous recordings, including several critically acclaimed albums for the Chandos label. One of the ensemble's most notable achievements was its performance of the complete chamber music works of Fanny Mendelssohn, which took place over the course of several concerts in 1996. This ambitious project was the first of its kind, and it helped to bring greater recognition to Mendelssohn's music, which had long been overshadowed by that of her more famous brother, Felix. In addition to its performances and recordings, the Ambache Chamber Ensemble has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1995, the group was awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber Music, and in 2007 Diana Ambache was awarded an MBE for her services to music.
