Ingolf Olsen was a Danish classical music artist who was born on August 29, 1920, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was the son of a violinist and a pianist, and his parents recognized his musical talent at an early age. Olsen began playing the piano when he was just four years old, and by the time he was six, he had already given his first public performance. Olsen's parents were his first music teachers, and they provided him with a solid foundation in music theory and technique. He continued his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he studied under the renowned pianist and composer, Knudåge Riisager.
