Elizabeth Sellars was born on May 5, 1985, in London, England. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Sellars showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Sellars received her early musical education at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey, England. She later went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honors. She continued her studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned her Master of Music degree. Sellars has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has also performed in many of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonie. One of Sellars' most notable performances was her debut with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2008, where she performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. The performance was widely praised by critics, with The Guardian describing Sellars as "a violinist of exceptional talent and musicality." Sellars has also won numerous awards for her performances, including the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis in 2006 and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2008. She has also been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a solo career. In addition to her solo performances, Sellars is also an active chamber musician. She has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. She is also a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York City. Sellars is known for her passionate and expressive playing style, as well as her deep musical understanding. She is particularly admired for her interpretations of the works of Bach, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky. Sellars is also a dedicated teacher, and has taught at the Royal College of Music in London and the Juilliard School in New York City. She is currently a professor of violin at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance.
