Born in 1986 in Strasbourg, France, Klipfel began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She received her first piano lessons from her mother, who was also a pianist, and later studied with renowned teachers such as Jean-François Heisser and Maria João Pires. Klipfel's musical education was marked by numerous awards and distinctions. At the age of 12, she won first prize at the National Piano Competition in France, and at 16, she was awarded the prestigious Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship. In 2005, she was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she studied with Jacques Rouvier and obtained her diploma with highest honors in 2010. Klipfel's career as a concert pianist began to take off in the early 2010s, when she won several international competitions and performed in major concert halls around the world. In 2011, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition of Lyon, and in 2012, she was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for her recording of Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze. She has also been a finalist or laureate of other prestigious competitions, such as the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition, the Leeds International Piano Competition, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Klipfel's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works from the Baroque to the contemporary period. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Schumann, Chopin, and Debussy, as well as for her performances of lesser-known composers such as Fauré, Ravel, and Messiaen. Her playing is characterized by a refined sense of phrasing, a delicate touch, and a deep emotional intensity that has won her critical acclaim and a devoted following among audiences. Some of Klipfel's most memorable performances include her debut recital at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 2013, where she played a program of Schumann, Chopin, and Debussy to great acclaim. She has also performed with major orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductors such as Daniele Gatti, Myung-Whun Chung, and Fabien Gabel. In addition to her career as a performer, Klipfel is also a dedicated teacher and has given masterclasses in France, Japan, and the United States. She is currently a professor of piano at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris and at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. Klipfel's recordings have also received critical acclaim and have been praised for their musical sensitivity and technical excellence. In addition to her award-winning recording of Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze, she has released several other albums, including a recording of Chopin's complete Nocturnes and a recital of French music that includes works by Fauré, Ravel, and Messiaen. Despite her young age, Catherine Klipfel has already established herself as one of the most talented and promising pianists of her generation. Her musical sensitivity, technical excellence, and deep emotional intensity have won her critical acclaim and a devoted following among audiences around the world.More....
