Maja Sunara is a Croatian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her exceptional talent and musicality. Born on May 5, 1987, in Zagreb, Croatia, Maja showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Her parents, both music lovers, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Maja's early musical education was at the Music School "Vatroslav Lisinski" in Zagreb, where she studied with Professor Lidija Horvat-Dunjko. She quickly distinguished herself as a gifted pianist, winning numerous awards and competitions. In 2003, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Barletta" in Italy, and in 2004, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Gorizia" in Italy. In 2005, Maja was accepted into the prestigious Music Academy in Zagreb, where she studied with Professor Ruben Dalibaltayan. She continued to excel in her studies, winning first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Treviso" in Italy in 2006 and the International Piano Competition "Citta di Marsala" in Italy in 2007. Maja's talent and hard work paid off when she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany, where she studied with Professor Michael Schäfer. During her time in Munich, Maja continued to win awards and competitions, including first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Cantù" in Italy in 2009 and the International Piano Competition "Citta di Piove di Sacco" in Italy in 2010. In 2011, Maja graduated from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater with a Master of Music degree, and she began to establish herself as a soloist and chamber musician. She has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Tonhalle Zurich, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. Maja has collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras, including the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino, and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo. She has also performed with many distinguished musicians, including the cellist Mischa Maisky, the violinist Julian Rachlin, and the clarinetist Sharon Kam. Maja's repertoire is extensive and includes works by many of the great composers, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, Schubert, and Schumann. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Chopin, and she has recorded several albums of his works, including "Chopin: The Complete Nocturnes" and "Chopin: The Complete Waltzes." Maja's performances have been praised for their technical brilliance, musicality, and emotional depth. She has been described as a "pianist of rare sensitivity and insight" and a "musician of exceptional talent and artistry." Her recordings have received critical acclaim, and she has been awarded numerous prizes, including the "Echo Klassik" award in Germany and the "Porin" award in Croatia. In addition to her performing career, Maja is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught masterclasses and given lectures at many institutions, including the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, the Zagreb Academy of Music, and the University of Arts in Belgrade.
