Claudia Scherrer, better known as Clau Scherrer, is a Swiss classical pianist and composer. She was born on October 22, 1987, in Zurich, Switzerland, to a family of musicians. Her father was a pianist and her mother was a violinist, so music was always a part of her life from a young age. Scherrer began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She began taking lessons with her father and later studied at the Zurich University of the Arts, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. She then went on to earn a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria. Throughout her career, Scherrer has won numerous awards and accolades for her performances and compositions. In 2009, she won first prize at the Swiss Youth Music Competition and was awarded the Prix Credit Suisse Jeunes Solistes. She also won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Rome in 2011 and was a finalist at the International Piano Competition in Geneva in 2012. Scherrer has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Musikverein in Vienna, the Tonhalle in Zurich, and the Carnegie Hall in New York City. She has also performed with renowned orchestras such as the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. One of Scherrer's most notable performances was her debut at the Lucerne Festival in 2014, where she performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra under the direction of Pierre Boulez. The performance was highly praised by critics and established Scherrer as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. In addition to her performances, Scherrer is also an accomplished composer. She has written numerous works for solo piano, chamber ensembles, and orchestra. Her compositions have been performed by various ensembles and orchestras, including the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
