Tatiana Koleva is a Bulgarian classical percussionist who has made a name for herself in the international music scene. Born on May 5, 1978, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Koleva grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a composer and her mother was a pianist, so it was only natural that Koleva would develop an interest in music at a young age. Koleva began her musical education at the age of six, studying piano and percussion at the National School of Music in Sofia. She continued her studies at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in percussion performance. Koleva then went on to pursue a Master's degree in percussion performance at the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands. Throughout her career, Koleva has performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras and ensembles, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Amsterdam Percussion Group. She has also collaborated with many contemporary composers, premiering numerous works written specifically for her. One of Koleva's most notable performances was her solo debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2012. She performed a program of contemporary percussion works, including pieces by John Psathas, Iannis Xenakis, and Minoru Miki. The performance was met with critical acclaim, with The New York Times praising Koleva's "virtuosic technique and musicality." Koleva has also been recognized for her contributions to the classical music world. In 2009, she was awarded the Dutch Music Prize, the highest honor for a musician in the Netherlands. She was also named the "Best Soloist" at the International Percussion Competition in Luxembourg in 2003. In addition to her performing career, Koleva is also a dedicated educator. She has taught at the Rotterdam Conservatory, the Amsterdam Conservatory, and the Fontys Conservatory in the Netherlands. She has also given masterclasses and workshops around the world, sharing her knowledge and expertise with aspiring percussionists. Koleva's repertoire is diverse, ranging from classical works to contemporary compositions. She is particularly known for her interpretations of works by Bulgarian composers, including Dobrinka Tabakova and Georgi Andreev. Koleva has also recorded several albums, including "Bulgarian Music for Marimba" and "Xenakis: Complete Works for Percussion."
