Mark Isham is a renowned American composer, trumpeter, and film score composer. He was born on September 7, 1951, in New York City, but grew up in San Francisco, California. Isham's parents were both musicians, and his father was a trumpet player. As a result, Isham was exposed to music from a young age and began playing the trumpet at the age of ten. Isham attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied classical music and jazz. He later attended the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where he continued his studies in classical music and jazz. After completing his studies, Isham began his career as a professional musician, playing with various jazz and rock bands. In the early 1980s, Isham began to focus on composing music for film and television. His first major film score was for the 1983 film "Never Cry Wolf." The score was well-received and earned Isham a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. Isham went on to compose music for a number of other films, including "Mrs. Soffel" (1984), "The Hitcher" (1986), and "The Moderns" (1988). In 1988, Isham composed the score for the film "The Beast," which earned him his first Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition for a Miniseries or a Special. In addition to his work in film and television, Isham has also composed music for the stage. He composed the music for the Broadway production of "The Secret Garden" in 1991, which earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Original Score. Isham's work in film and television continued throughout the 1990s and 2000s. He composed the score for the 1994 film "Nell," which earned him his second Grammy Award nomination for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. He also composed the score for the 1997 film "The Education of Little Tree," which earned him his second Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition for a Miniseries or a Special. In addition to his work in film and television, Isham has also released a number of albums as a solo artist. His first album, "Vapor Drawings," was released in 1983 and was well-received by critics. He has since released a number of other albums, including "Castalia" (1988), "Blue Sun" (1995), and "The Cooler" (2003). Isham's music is known for its blend of classical, jazz, and electronic elements. He often incorporates the trumpet into his compositions, as well as other instruments such as the piano, guitar, and synthesizer.
