Marc Djokic is a Canadian violinist who has made a name for himself in the classical music world with his virtuosic playing and passionate performances. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1988, Djokic grew up in a musical family and began playing the violin at the age of three. His father, Philippe Djokic, is a renowned violinist and teacher, and his mother, Lynn Stodola, is a pianist and music educator. Djokic's early musical education was shaped by his parents, who provided him with a strong foundation in classical music. He began studying with his father at a young age and later went on to study with other notable teachers, including Gwen Thompson-Robinow and David Stewart. Djokic also attended the Mount Royal Conservatory in Calgary, Alberta, where he studied with Bill van der Sloot. As a young musician, Djokic quickly gained recognition for his talent and dedication. He won numerous awards and competitions, including the National Music Festival of Canada, the Canadian Music Competition, and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition. In 2002, he was named the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious Prix d'Europe, a scholarship awarded to outstanding young musicians. Djokic's career as a professional musician began in earnest in the early 2000s, when he began performing regularly with orchestras and chamber ensembles across Canada. He quickly established himself as a dynamic and engaging performer, known for his technical prowess and emotional depth. In 2005, he made his debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, performing the Brahms Violin Concerto to critical acclaim. Since then, Djokic has performed with many of Canada's leading orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared as a soloist with orchestras in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and has collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors and musicians. In addition to his work as a soloist, Djokic is also an active chamber musician. He has performed with many of Canada's leading chamber ensembles, including the Cecilia String Quartet, the Gryphon Trio, and the New Orford String Quartet. He is also a founding member of the Djokic Trio, a group that includes his father and sister, cellist Denise Djokic. Djokic's recordings have received widespread critical acclaim. His debut album, "Solo Seven," was released in 2009 and features works by Bach, Ysaÿe, and Paganini. His second album, "Forgotten Melodies," was released in 2013 and features works by composers who were persecuted during the Soviet era. The album was named one of the top classical recordings of the year by CBC Music. In addition to his performing career, Djokic is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at the Mount Royal Conservatory and the University of Ottawa, and has given masterclasses and workshops across Canada and around the world. He is also a passionate advocate for music education and has worked with organizations such as MusiCounts and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada to promote music education and support young musicians. Throughout his career, Djokic has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the classical music world.
