Role:ConductorHugh Murphy was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a classical pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Hugh showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. As a child, Hugh was enrolled in the Royal Academy of Music's Junior Department, where he received formal training in piano performance. He quickly excelled in his studies and was soon performing in public concerts and competitions. At the age of 12, Hugh won first prize in the prestigious EPTA UK Piano Competition, which launched his career as a professional musician. Hugh continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honors. He then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned pianist Emanuel Ax. Throughout his career, Hugh has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Hugh's most notable performances was his debut with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2010, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was met with critical acclaim, with The Guardian describing Hugh's playing as "mesmerizing" and "spellbinding." In addition to his performances as a soloist, Hugh is also an accomplished chamber musician.
