Franck Ollu is a renowned conductor and composer in the world of classical music. Born in France in 1964, Ollu grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. His father was a composer and his mother was a pianist, and they encouraged him to pursue music as a career. Ollu began his musical education at the Conservatoire National de Région de Nice, where he studied piano and composition. He later attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied conducting with renowned conductor Pierre Boulez. After completing his studies, Ollu began his career as a conductor, working with various orchestras and ensembles in France and around the world. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative programming and his ability to bring out the best in his musicians. One of Ollu's early highlights as a conductor was his appointment as the music director of the Ensemble Intercontemporain in 1992. This prestigious ensemble, founded by Pierre Boulez, is dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music. Ollu led the ensemble for six years, during which time he commissioned and premiered numerous new works by leading composers. In 1998, Ollu was appointed the principal conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. This position allowed him to work with some of the world's leading soloists and to conduct a wide range of repertoire, from classical to contemporary. During his tenure, he led the orchestra on numerous international tours and made several acclaimed recordings. Ollu has also been a frequent guest conductor with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading soloists, including pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. In addition to his work as a conductor, Ollu is also an accomplished composer. His works have been performed by leading ensembles around the world, including the Ensemble Intercontemporain and the London Sinfonietta. He has also been commissioned to write works for major festivals, including the Festival d'Automne in Paris and the Salzburg Festival. Ollu's contributions to the world of classical music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2003, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of his contributions to the arts. He has also been awarded the Prix de la Critique Musicale and the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros. Despite his many accomplishments, Ollu remains committed to pushing the boundaries of classical music and exploring new ways of presenting and performing the music of our time. He continues to be in demand as a conductor and composer, and his work is sure to inspire and delight audiences for many years to come.
