Calder Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and innovative approach to music since their formation in 1998. The quartet consists of Benjamin Jacobson (violin), Andrew Bulbrook (violin), Jonathan Moerschel (viola), and Eric Byers (cello), all of whom are accomplished musicians in their own right. The quartet was formed while the members were studying at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. They quickly gained recognition for their exceptional musicianship and were soon performing at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. One of the highlights of the quartet's early career was their performance at the 2004 Edinburgh International Festival, where they received critical acclaim for their interpretation of the music of Thomas Adès. This performance helped to establish the quartet as one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in the classical music world. Since then, the quartet has continued to push the boundaries of classical music, collaborating with a diverse range of artists and composers. They have worked with musicians such as The National, Vampire Weekend, and Andrew Bird, as well as composers such as Terry Riley and Thomas Adès. In 2014, the quartet released their album "The Twenty-Fifth Hour," which was praised for its inventive and eclectic approach to classical music. The album featured works by composers such as Anton Webern, Igor Stravinsky, and Andrew Norman, as well as original compositions by the quartet members themselves. The quartet has also been recognized for their exceptional musicianship, receiving numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2010, they were awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise. They have also been nominated for a Grammy Award for their recording of the music of Thomas Adès. In addition to their performances and recordings, the quartet is also committed to music education and outreach. They have worked with organizations such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Youth Orchestra Program and the Harmony Project, which provides music education to underserved communities.
