Rowland Sidwell was a renowned classical music artist who made significant contributions to the world of music. He was born on 16th June 1917 in London, England. Sidwell's parents were both musicians, and they encouraged him to pursue music from a young age. He started playing the piano at the age of five and later learned to play the trumpet. Sidwell's musical talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly became a skilled musician. He attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied composition, conducting, and trumpet. After completing his studies, Sidwell began his career as a freelance musician, playing in various orchestras and ensembles. In 1940, Sidwell joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) and served as a musician in the RAF Central Band. During his time in the RAF, he conducted the band and arranged music for them. He also played the trumpet in the band and performed in concerts for the troops. After the war, Sidwell continued his career as a freelance musician. He played in various orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He also worked as a conductor and arranger, and his arrangements were performed by many orchestras, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Sidwell's talent as a conductor was recognized, and he was appointed as the conductor of the BBC Northern Orchestra in 1951. He held this position for six years and conducted many concerts with the orchestra. During his time with the BBC Northern Orchestra, Sidwell also conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. In 1957, Sidwell was appointed as the conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. He held this position for ten years and conducted many concerts with the orchestra. He also recorded several albums with the orchestra, including works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. Sidwell's talent as a conductor was widely recognized, and he was invited to conduct many orchestras around the world. He conducted the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic, among others. He also conducted many opera productions, including productions of Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" and Verdi's "La Traviata." Sidwell was also a prolific composer and arranger. He composed many works for orchestra, including a symphony and several concertos. He also arranged many works for orchestra, including works by Bach, Handel, and Mozart. Sidwell's contributions to the world of music were recognized, and he received many awards and honors throughout his career. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1967 for his services to music. He was also awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society in 1977. Sidwell continued to work as a musician until his death on 14th December 1979. He left behind a legacy of great music and inspired many musicians with his talent and dedication to music.
