Artist Info

Wolfgang Failer was a renowned classical music artist who was born on January 12, 1955, in Vienna, Austria. He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Failer was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. As a child, Failer showed exceptional talent and was quickly recognized as a prodigy. He began performing in public at the age of six and made his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of nine. He continued to perform regularly throughout his childhood and was soon recognized as one of the most promising young musicians of his generation. In 1973, Failer graduated from the Vienna Conservatory with honors and began his professional career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation as a virtuoso performer and was in high demand throughout Europe and the United States. He performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. One of Failer's most memorable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1978. He performed a program of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised his "brilliant technique and musical sensitivity," and the audience gave him a standing ovation. Throughout his career, Failer was known for his passionate and expressive playing. He had a deep understanding of the music he played and was able to convey its emotional depth to his audiences. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. In addition to his performances, Failer was also a respected teacher and mentor. He taught at the Vienna Conservatory and the Salzburg Mozarteum, and many of his students went on to have successful careers as musicians. Over the course of his career, Failer received many awards and honors. In 1985, he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, and in 1992 he was awarded the Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria. He was also a recipient of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Despite his success, Failer remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to practice for hours every day and was always striving to improve his playing. He was known for his kindness and generosity, and many of his colleagues and students spoke of his warmth and encouragement. Tragically, Failer's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in 1998. He continued to perform and teach for as long as he was able, but he passed away on June 15, 2000, at the age of 45. Today, Failer is remembered as one of the greatest pianists of his generation. His recordings continue to be admired for their technical brilliance and emotional depth, and his legacy lives on through the many musicians he inspired and mentored.
