He was born on 12th June 1945 in Copenhagen, Denmark. His parents were both musicians, and they encouraged him to pursue music from a young age. Ib showed a keen interest in music and started playing the piano when he was just five years old. Ib's parents recognized his talent and enrolled him in the Royal Danish Academy of Music when he was just ten years old. He studied under the guidance of some of the most renowned music teachers in Denmark. Ib's dedication and hard work paid off, and he graduated with honors from the academy when he was just eighteen years old. After completing his studies, Ib started performing in various concerts and recitals across Denmark. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented pianist and was soon invited to perform in other countries. In 1967, he made his debut in the United States, performing at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The performance was a huge success, and Ib received rave reviews from the critics. Over the next few years, Ib continued to perform in various countries, including Germany, France, and Japan. He also recorded several albums, which were well-received by the public and the critics. In 1972, he won the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, which cemented his position as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. Ib's performances were known for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. He had a unique ability to connect with his audience and convey the emotions of the music he was playing. His repertoire included works by some of the greatest composers of all time, including Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. One of Ib's most memorable performances was at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1980. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the Emperor Concerto, with the London Symphony Orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and Ib received a standing ovation from the audience. In addition to his performances, Ib was also a respected music teacher. He taught at several music schools and academies, including the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the Juilliard School in New York City. He was known for his patient and nurturing teaching style, and many of his students went on to become successful musicians in their own right.
