Jon Burr is a renowned bassist, composer, and arranger in the world of jazz and classical music. Born on August 30, 1951, in Yonkers, New York, Burr grew up in a musical family. His father was a professional trumpet player, and his mother was a singer. Burr started playing the piano at the age of six and later switched to the bass guitar when he was 13. Burr's interest in music continued to grow, and he started playing in local bands in his teenage years. He attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied music composition and performance. After graduating, Burr moved to New York City, where he began his career as a professional musician. In the early 1980s, Burr became a member of the jazz group, The Manhattan Transfer. He played bass on their album, "Bop Doo Wopp," which won a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Duo or Group in 1985. Burr also played on their album, "Vocalese," which won a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Duo or Group in 1986. Burr's career as a bassist continued to flourish, and he played with many other notable jazz musicians, including Stan Getz, Chet Baker, and Horace Silver. He also played on the soundtrack for the movie, "The Cotton Club," which was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In addition to his work as a bassist, Burr is also a talented composer and arranger. He has written music for television shows, including "The Cosby Show" and "A Different World." He has also composed music for films, including "The Mambo Kings" and "The Last Seduction." Burr's work as a composer and arranger has earned him many accolades. He won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Direction for the television show, "A Different World," in 1992. He also won a CableACE Award for Best Original Score for the television show, "The Cosby Mysteries," in 1995.
