Starling Chamber Orchestra is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is named after the Starling bird, which is known for its beautiful and intricate songs. The founding members of the Starling Chamber Orchestra were all graduates of prestigious music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the New England Conservatory. They were all accomplished musicians in their own right, but they came together to form the ensemble because they believed that they could create something special by working together. The ensemble's main members include violinists Siwoo Kim and Francisco Fullana, violist Maren Rothfritz, cellist Gabriel Cabezas, and pianist Amy Yang. Since its founding, the Starling Chamber Orchestra has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Berlin Philharmonic. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians in the classical music world, including Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, and Itzhak Perlman. One of the highlights of the Starling Chamber Orchestra's career was their performance at the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors, where they paid tribute to the legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein. The ensemble performed a medley of Bernstein's most famous works, including selections from West Side Story and Candide, and received a standing ovation from the audience. The Starling Chamber Orchestra has also been recognized for their outstanding performances and recordings. In 2017, the ensemble won the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, which recognizes ensembles that take risks and push the boundaries of traditional chamber music.
