Marty Haugen is a renowned composer, liturgist, and performer in the field of contemporary sacred music. He was born on December 30, 1950, in Wanamingo, Minnesota, USA. Haugen grew up in a musical family, where he was exposed to various genres of music, including classical, folk, and gospel. He started playing the piano at a young age and later learned to play the guitar and other instruments. Haugen attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he studied music and theology. During his college years, he became interested in liturgical music and started composing his own pieces.
