Rich Mullins was an American Christian music singer and songwriter who was born on October 21, 1955, in Richmond, Indiana. He was the son of a tree farmer and grew up in a small town in Indiana. Mullins was raised in a Christian family and was introduced to music at a young age. He learned to play the piano and guitar and began writing songs in his teenage years. Mullins attended Cincinnati Bible College, where he studied theology and music. During his time in college, he began performing at local churches and coffeehouses. After graduation, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a career in music. Mullins signed with Reunion Records in 1986 and released his first album, "Winds of Heaven, Stuff of Earth," in 1988. The album was well-received and included the hit single "Awesome God," which became one of Mullins' most popular songs. Over the next decade, Mullins released several more albums, including "The World As Best As I Remember It, Volume One" (1991), "A Liturgy, A Legacy, & A Ragamuffin Band" (1993), and "Brother's Keeper" (1995). His music was known for its honest and introspective lyrics, which often dealt with themes of faith, doubt, and social justice. Mullins was also known for his unique musical style, which blended elements of folk, rock, and classical music. He often incorporated instruments such as the hammered dulcimer and penny whistle into his songs, giving them a distinctive sound.
