Stephen Forsling was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Forsling showed a natural talent for music and began taking piano lessons at the age of five. Forsling's musical education continued throughout his childhood and teenage years. He attended the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied piano with Yoheved Kaplinsky. He also studied with renowned pianist Emanuel Ax and attended masterclasses with other notable musicians such as Lang Lang and Murray Perahia. In 2003, Forsling was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he continued his studies with Seymour Lipkin. During his time at Curtis, Forsling won several awards, including the Rachmaninoff Concerto Competition and the Curtis Concerto Competition. After graduating from Curtis in 2007, Forsling began his professional career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained recognition for his virtuosic playing and musical sensitivity. He has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Forsling has also been a frequent performer at major music festivals around the world, including the Aspen Music Festival, the Tanglewood Music Festival, and the Verbier Festival. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and soprano Renée Fleming. In addition to his performing career, Forsling is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, and he currently serves on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music. Throughout his career, Forsling has received numerous awards and honors. In 2010, he was named a Gilmore Young Artist, an award given to the most promising young pianists in the world. He has also been a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. Forsling's recordings have also received critical acclaim. His debut album, featuring works by Schumann and Brahms, was praised by The New York Times for its "impeccable technique and musical intelligence." His subsequent recordings, which include works by Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy, have also been well-received. Despite his many accomplishments, Forsling remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, always striving to improve his playing and share his love of music with others.
