Chordos Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and exceptional performances for over a decade. The quartet was founded in 2009 by four talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to create something special. The founding members of Chordos Quartet are violinists Maria and Anna, violist Peter, and cellist David. All four musicians had extensive training in classical music and had performed with various orchestras and ensembles before coming together to form the quartet. The quartet's name, Chordos, is derived from the Greek word "chordos," which means string. This name reflects the quartet's focus on string instruments and their commitment to exploring the full range of sound and emotion that can be created with these instruments. Chordos Quartet quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional performances and unique sound. Their repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from the works of Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary composers like Philip Glass and Arvo Pärt. One of the highlights of Chordos Quartet's career was their performance at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2012. The quartet received rave reviews for their performance of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131. The New York Times praised the quartet's "impeccable technique and emotional depth," and called their performance "a revelation." In addition to their performance at Carnegie Hall, Chordos Quartet has also performed at other notable venues around the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and the Berlin Philharmonic in Germany. Chordos Quartet has also received numerous awards and accolades for their performances. In 2014, they were awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise.
