In 1997, Howes was awarded a scholarship to attend the Juilliard School in New York City. There, he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. Howes continued to excel in his studies and was awarded several prestigious awards, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Howes made his professional debut in 2001, performing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at Lincoln Center. The performance was a huge success, and Howes was praised for his technical skill and musicality. He continued to perform with major orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.
