Richard Kness was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Kness showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Kness received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Kness won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. After graduating from Juilliard, Kness began his professional career as a concert pianist, performing in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Kness is known for his virtuosic performances of the works of classical composers such as Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. He is particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Franz Liszt, which he has recorded extensively. In addition to his performing career, Kness is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at several prestigious music schools, including the Juilliard School and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is known for his innovative teaching methods, which focus on developing the individual strengths and talents of each student. Throughout his career, Kness has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to classical music. In 2010, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a career in classical music. He has also been awarded the Gilmore Artist Award, which is given to pianists who demonstrate exceptional talent and dedication to their craft. Despite his many achievements, Kness remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
