She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Her father was a pianist, and her mother was a singer, which inspired Jutta to pursue a career in music. Jutta started playing the piano at a young age and showed exceptional talent. She received her first piano lessons from her father and later studied at the Berlin University of the Arts. She also attended masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Martha Argerich and Claudio Arrau. In 1978, Jutta won the first prize at the International Piano Competition in Munich, which marked the beginning of her successful career as a pianist. She went on to perform in major concert halls around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Jutta was known for her exceptional technique and musicality, which earned her critical acclaim and numerous awards throughout her career. In 1982, she won the prestigious Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland, which is considered one of the most important piano competitions in the world. Jutta's repertoire was vast and included works by classical composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin, as well as contemporary composers such as Ligeti and Boulez. She was particularly known for her interpretations of the works of Robert Schumann, which she recorded for Deutsche Grammophon. In addition to her solo performances, Jutta also collaborated with renowned conductors and orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. She was also a sought-after chamber musician and performed with renowned artists such as violinist Gidon Kremer and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Jutta's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer in 1992. Despite her illness, she continued to perform and record, and her final recording, a collection of Schumann's works, was released posthumously in 1994.
