The Saxon Wind Philharmonic is a classical music ensemble based in Dresden, Germany. The group was founded in 1997 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for wind music and a desire to create a new and innovative ensemble that would showcase the beauty and versatility of wind instruments. The founding members of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic were all accomplished musicians with extensive experience in classical music. They included flutist Annette Schumann, oboist Thomas Eberhardt, clarinetist Andreas Schindler, bassoonist Andreas Korn, and horn player Matthias Höfs. Together, they set out to create a unique ensemble that would combine the precision and technical skill of a classical orchestra with the expressive power and dynamic range of wind instruments. Over the years, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic has grown to include a diverse group of musicians from all over Germany and beyond. Today, the ensemble is made up of over 30 musicians who play a wide range of wind instruments, including flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, and trombones. One of the hallmarks of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic is its commitment to exploring new and innovative approaches to classical music. The group is known for its adventurous programming, which often includes contemporary works and lesser-known pieces from the classical repertoire. The ensemble also frequently collaborates with other artists and musicians, including dancers, visual artists, and composers. Over the years, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in Europe and beyond. The group has been invited to perform at the Salzburg Festival, the Lucerne Festival, and the Berlin Philharmonic, among others. The ensemble has also toured extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, earning critical acclaim for its virtuosic performances and innovative programming. One of the highlights of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic's career was its performance at the 2006 World Wind Band Festival in Kerkrade, Netherlands. The group was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix, the highest honor at the festival, for its performance of a program that included works by Mozart, Stravinsky, and contemporary composer John Adams. In addition to its many performances and awards, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic is also committed to education and outreach. The group regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, and has established a scholarship program to support talented wind players from disadvantaged backgrounds. Overall, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. With its commitment to exploring new and innovative approaches to wind music, the group has earned a reputation as one of the most exciting and forward-thinking ensembles in the world today.More....
