Role:ComposerBirth:1905Death:1973Period:RomanticGenre:VocalCesare Cesarini was an Italian composer and conductor who lived from 1878 to 1963. He was born in Rome, Italy, and showed an early interest in music. His father was a musician, and Cesare began studying the violin at a young age. He later studied composition and conducting at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Cesarini's early career was focused on conducting. He worked as an assistant conductor at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome, and later became the principal conductor of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. He also conducted orchestras in other Italian cities, including Florence and Naples. In addition to his work as a conductor, Cesarini was also a prolific composer. He wrote music in a variety of genres, including opera, ballet, and symphonic works. His music was influenced by the Italian operatic tradition, as well as by the music of Richard Wagner and other German composers. One of Cesarini's most famous works is his opera "La Mandragola," which premiered in Rome in 1926. The opera is based on a play by the Italian Renaissance writer Niccolò Machiavelli, and tells the story of a young man who is tricked into marrying a woman who is not what she seems. The opera was well-received by audiences and critics, and helped to establish Cesarini as a major figure in Italian music. Cesarini also wrote several ballets, including "La Danza delle Ore" (The Dance of the Hours), which was first performed in Rome in 1913. The ballet is set to music from the opera "La Gioconda" by Amilcare Ponchielli, and features a series of dances representing the hours of the day. The ballet became famous outside of Italy when it was featured in the Disney film "Fantasia" in 1940. In addition to his operas and ballets, Cesarini also wrote a number of symphonic works. One of his most famous pieces is his "Sinfonia Romantica," which was first performed in Rome in 1911. The symphony is in four movements, and features lush melodies and rich harmonies that reflect Cesarini's love of Italian opera. Cesarini's music was popular in Italy during his lifetime, but he was not as well-known outside of his home country. However, his music has been rediscovered in recent years, and is now being performed and recorded by orchestras around the world. Cesarini died in Rome in 1963, at the age of 85. He left behind a legacy of beautiful music that continues to be enjoyed by audiences today.More....
