Capella Vocalis is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their stunning performances for over two decades. The ensemble was founded in 1999 by conductor and artistic director, Marcus Creed, and is based in Stuttgart, Germany. Creed, who was born in England, had previously worked with the renowned Hilliard Ensemble and was looking to create a new ensemble that would focus on a cappella music. He assembled a group of talented singers from around the world, including Germany, England, and the United States, to form Capella Vocalis. The ensemble's name, Capella Vocalis, is derived from the Latin word "capella," which means "chapel," and "vocalis," which means "vocal." The name reflects the ensemble's focus on performing sacred music, particularly from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Capella Vocalis has a core group of 12 singers, but they often expand to include additional singers for larger works. The ensemble's members are all highly trained and experienced singers, many of whom have performed with other prestigious ensembles such as the Monteverdi Choir and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. One of the highlights of Capella Vocalis's career was their performance at the 2000 Bachfest in Leipzig, Germany. The ensemble performed Bach's Mass in B Minor to critical acclaim, and their performance was broadcast on German television. This performance helped to establish Capella Vocalis as one of the premier vocal ensembles in Germany. Capella Vocalis has also performed at numerous other festivals and concert series throughout Europe, including the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the Edinburgh International Festival. They have collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras, including Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the English Baroque Soloists. In addition to their live performances, Capella Vocalis has also released several recordings. Their debut album, "Sacred Music from the Renaissance," was released in 2001 and received critical acclaim. They have since released several other albums, including "Bach: Motets" and "Palestrina: Missa Papae Marcelli." Capella Vocalis has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2002, they were awarded the Echo Klassik award for their recording of Bach's Mass in B Minor. They have also been nominated for several other Echo Klassik awards, as well as the Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance. Despite their success, Capella Vocalis remains committed to their mission of performing sacred music with the highest level of artistry and expression. They continue to inspire audiences with their beautiful and moving performances, and their legacy as one of the premier vocal ensembles of our time is secure.
