Unni Løvlid is a Norwegian classical music artist who has made a name for herself in the world of traditional Norwegian music. Born on June 6, 1976, in Hornindal, Norway, Løvlid grew up in a family that was deeply involved in traditional Norwegian music. Her father was a fiddler, and her mother was a singer, and they both played a significant role in shaping her musical career. Løvlid's interest in music began at a young age, and she started singing in choirs and playing the piano when she was just six years old. She later learned to play the guitar and the Hardanger fiddle, a traditional Norwegian instrument that has eight or nine strings and is played with a bow. Løvlid's musical career took off in the late 1990s when she joined the Norwegian folk music group Rusk. The group was known for its innovative approach to traditional Norwegian music, and Løvlid's unique voice and musical style quickly made her a standout member of the group. In 2000, Løvlid released her first solo album, "So ro liten tull," which was well-received by critics and audiences alike. The album showcased Løvlid's ability to blend traditional Norwegian music with contemporary styles, and it helped establish her as a rising star in the Norwegian music scene. Over the next few years, Løvlid continued to perform and record music, collaborating with other musicians and exploring new musical styles. In 2004, she released her second solo album, "Vita," which was a departure from her earlier work and featured more experimental and avant-garde music. In 2006, Løvlid was awarded the prestigious Edvard Prize for her album "Rite," which was a collaboration with the Norwegian composer and musician Ståle Storløkken. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped cement Løvlid's reputation as one of Norway's most innovative and talented musicians. In addition to her solo work, Løvlid has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and artists, including the Norwegian jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft and the American composer and musician John Zorn. She has also performed at a number of major music festivals around the world, including the Oslo World Music Festival, the WOMAD Festival, and the North Sea Jazz Festival. Despite her success, Løvlid remains committed to preserving and promoting traditional Norwegian music. She has worked with a number of organizations and institutions to help preserve and document traditional Norwegian music, and she has also taught workshops and masterclasses to help pass on her knowledge and skills to the next generation of musicians. Today, Løvlid is widely regarded as one of Norway's most important and influential musicians. Her unique voice and musical style have helped to redefine traditional Norwegian music, and her innovative approach to music continues to inspire and influence musicians around the world.
