His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical pianist, so it was only natural that Calloway would develop a love for music. Calloway began playing the cello at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He has been a member of the Amernet String Quartet since 2004 and has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among others. One of Calloway's most notable performances was his solo debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2000. He performed the cello concerto by Samuel Barber, which was met with critical acclaim. The New York Times praised Calloway's "rich, burnished tone" and his "sensitive, nuanced phrasing." Calloway has also been recognized for his work as a chamber musician. In 2001, he and the Amernet String Quartet won the Grand Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the world. They have also been awarded the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award and the Cleveland Quartet Award. In addition to his work as a performer, Calloway is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music since 2004 and has also taught at the New World School of the Arts and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Calloway's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, such as Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Shostakovich. He is also a champion of contemporary music and has premiered works by composers such as John Harbison, Augusta Read Thomas, and Richard Wilson. Calloway's dedication to music has earned him numerous accolades and awards throughout his career. In 2010, he was awarded the Knight Arts Challenge Grant, which recognizes artists who are making a significant impact on the cultural landscape of their community. He was also named a Fellow of the New World Symphony in 2001 and a Fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center in 1999. Despite his many accomplishments, Calloway remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, inspiring the next generation of musicians to pursue their passion for music.
