Quartetto Werther is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2007 in Italy. The group is composed of four members, all of whom are highly skilled musicians with a passion for chamber music. The quartet's name is inspired by the protagonist of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's novel "The Sorrows of Young Werther," which reflects the group's artistic and emotional approach to music. The founding members of Quartetto Werther are violinists Alberto Franchin and Paola Zadra, violist Danilo Squitieri, and cellist Antonio Meneses. Franchin and Zadra had previously played together in the Quartetto di Venezia, while Squitieri and Meneses were members of the Quartetto di Cremona. The four musicians came together with the goal of creating a new ensemble that would showcase their individual talents and musical chemistry. Since its founding, Quartetto Werther has become known for its dynamic and expressive performances, which are characterized by a deep understanding of the music and a strong sense of ensemble playing. The quartet has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and has collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians and conductors. One of the highlights of Quartetto Werther's career was its performance at the 2011 Salzburg Festival, where the quartet played Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131. The performance was widely praised for its emotional intensity and technical precision, and cemented the quartet's reputation as one of the most exciting young ensembles in the classical music world. In addition to its performances, Quartetto Werther has also received numerous awards and accolades for its recordings. The quartet's debut album, which featured works by Schumann and Brahms, was released in 2010 to critical acclaim, and was followed by several more successful recordings, including a disc of Mozart's "Haydn" Quartets and a collection of works by Italian composer Luigi Boccherini. Throughout its career, Quartetto Werther has remained committed to exploring the rich and diverse repertoire of chamber music, from the classical masters to contemporary composers. The quartet's performances are marked by a deep respect for the music and a desire to communicate its beauty and emotional power to audiences around the world.
