Steve Redfield was born on May 12, 1975, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned classical pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Redfield showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Redfield's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly developed a passion for classical music. By the age of ten, Redfield had already performed in several concerts and had won several awards for his piano playing. Redfield continued to hone his skills as a pianist and studied under some of the most renowned classical pianists in the world. He attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Redfield's talent as a pianist quickly gained recognition, and he began performing in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. He made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1998, where he received a standing ovation for his performance of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2, also known as the "Moonlight Sonata." Redfield's performance at Carnegie Hall was a turning point in his career, and he began receiving invitations to perform at other major concert halls around the world. He performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Sydney Opera House, among others. Redfield's repertoire includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. He is known for his technical precision and his ability to convey the emotional depth of the music he plays. In addition to his solo performances, Redfield has also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, among others. Redfield has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2001, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a successful career in classical music. He was also awarded the Gilmore Artist Award in 2006, which is given to pianists who demonstrate exceptional talent and promise. Redfield is also a dedicated teacher and has taught master classes at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is passionate about passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of musicians. In addition to his work as a pianist and teacher, Redfield is also a composer. He has written several pieces for piano, including a piano concerto that he premiered with the New York Philharmonic in 2010. Redfield continues to perform and inspire audiences around the world with his exceptional talent and passion for classical music.
