She was born on June 12, 1945, in New York City, to a family of musicians. Her father was a pianist, and her mother was a violinist. From a young age, Barbara showed a keen interest in music and began taking piano lessons at the age of five. Barbara's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where she studied piano under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Rosina Lhevinne. Barbara's talent and dedication to music were evident from the start, and she quickly became one of Lhevinne's star pupils. After graduating from Juilliard, Barbara embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. She made her debut at Carnegie Hall in 1968, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the New York Philharmonic. The performance was a resounding success, and Barbara received critical acclaim for her virtuosic playing and musical interpretation. Over the years, Barbara performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
