Julie Landsman is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music as a French horn player. She was born on October 30, 1959, in New York City, United States. Her parents were both musicians, and her father was a French horn player in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Landsman grew up in a musical environment and started playing the French horn at the age of nine. Landsman attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with Myron Bloom, a renowned French horn player. She graduated from Juilliard in 1980 with a Bachelor of Music degree. After graduation, she joined the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as the principal French horn player, a position she held for 25 years. During her time at the Metropolitan Opera, Landsman performed in over 3,000 performances and played on more than 100 recordings. In addition to her work with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Landsman has also performed with other orchestras and ensembles. She has been a guest soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. Landsman has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1985, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a successful career in music. In 1995, she was awarded the Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award by the International Horn Society for her contributions to the horn community. In 2002, she was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Juilliard School. Landsman is also a respected teacher and has taught at several institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Bard College Conservatory of Music. She has also given masterclasses and workshops around the world, including in Japan, Australia, and Europe. One of the highlights of Landsman's career was her performance at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was chosen to perform the Olympic Fanfare and Theme, which was composed by John Williams for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
