Role:EnsemblePeriod:RomanticGenre:VocalSolid Brass is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and virtuosic performances for over three decades. The ensemble was founded in 1981 by trumpeter and arranger Jeff Tyzik, who had a vision of creating a brass ensemble that would showcase the versatility and power of brass instruments. The main members of Solid Brass have changed over the years, but the ensemble has always been comprised of some of the most talented brass players in the world. In its early years, the ensemble consisted of Jeff Tyzik on trumpet, Mark Kellogg on trombone, and Craig Sutherland on tuba. Later, the ensemble expanded to include additional trumpets, trombones, and French horns. Solid Brass quickly gained a reputation for their innovative arrangements and dynamic performances. They performed a wide range of music, from classical works to jazz standards to popular songs, and their arrangements often featured intricate harmonies and complex rhythms. The ensemble's sound was characterized by its rich, full-bodied brass tones and its ability to blend seamlessly as a group. One of Solid Brass's early highlights was their performance at the 1982 International Trumpet Guild Conference in New York City. The ensemble's performance was so well-received that they were invited to perform at the conference again the following year. This led to more performance opportunities for the ensemble, including concerts at major music festivals and venues across the United States and Europe. In 1985, Solid Brass released their first album, "Solid Brass," which featured a mix of classical and popular music. The album received critical acclaim and helped to establish the ensemble as one of the premier brass ensembles in the world. Over the years, Solid Brass released several more albums, including "Brass on Broadway," "Brass in Blue," and "Brass Nation." Solid Brass's performances were not limited to concert halls and music festivals. The ensemble also performed at major sporting events, including the Super Bowl, the World Series, and the Olympics. Their performance at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, was particularly memorable, as they played a medley of American patriotic songs during the opening ceremony. In addition to their live performances, Solid Brass also made several appearances on television and radio. They were featured on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson," "The Today Show," and "Good Morning America," among others. They also recorded music for several television shows and movies, including "The Cosby Show" and "The Lion King." Solid Brass's talent and hard work were recognized with several awards and honors over the years. In 1990, the ensemble was awarded the National Medal of Arts, the highest honor given to artists and arts patrons by the United States government. They were also inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame in 2012. Despite their success, Solid Brass remained committed to their mission of bringing the beauty and power of brass music to audiences around the world. They continued to perform and record music until 2014, when the ensemble officially disbanded. However, their legacy lives on through their recordings and the countless people who were inspired by their music. In conclusion, Solid Brass was a classical music ensemble that made a significant impact on the world of brass music.More....
