Mary Lou Fallis is a Canadian soprano, comedian, and educator who has made a significant impact on the world of classical music. Born on April 22, 1948, in Toronto, Canada, Fallis grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. She attended the University of Toronto, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in voice and a Master of Music degree in opera. Fallis began her career as a classical singer, performing with various opera companies and orchestras in Canada and the United States. She quickly gained a reputation for her comedic talent and began incorporating humor into her performances. In 1978, she formed the vocal quartet The Four Bitchin' Babes, which performed humorous songs and parodies of popular music. In 1983, Fallis made her debut at the Stratford Festival in Ontario, Canada, where she performed in the musical "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." She went on to perform in several other productions at the festival, including "The Mikado" and "The Pirates of Penzance." Fallis's comedic talent and musical ability led to numerous television appearances, including performances on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" and "The Late Show with David Letterman." She also appeared in several films, including "The Big Chill" and "The Jane Austen Book Club." In addition to her performing career, Fallis is also an accomplished educator. She has taught voice and opera at the University of Toronto and the Royal Conservatory of Music, and has conducted master classes and workshops throughout Canada and the United States. Fallis has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1991, she was awarded the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest honors, for her contributions to the arts. She has also received several Juno Awards, Canada's top music award, for her recordings of classical and comedic music. Fallis continues to perform and teach, and her unique blend of humor and classical music has made her a beloved figure in the world of music and entertainment.
