Bernede's musical journey began at a young age when he started playing the violin. He showed exceptional talent and was soon enrolled in the Bordeaux Conservatory, where he received formal training in music. He continued his studies at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied composition under the tutelage of Olivier Messiaen. Bernede's career as a composer began in the 1950s when he started writing music for films. He composed music for several French films, including "Les Amants de Montparnasse" and "Le Rouge et le Noir." His music was well-received, and he soon gained recognition as a talented composer. In addition to his work in film, Bernede also composed music for the stage. He wrote several operas, including "Le Roi David," which was performed at the Paris Opera in 1963. He also wrote ballets, including "Le Petit Prince," which was performed by the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris in 1972. Bernede's work as a conductor was equally impressive. He conducted several orchestras, including the Orchestre National de France and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. He was also the principal conductor of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande from 1973 to 1980. He founded the orchestra in 1953 and served as its director for over 30 years.
