Julia Zilberquit is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with her virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born in Moscow, Russia in 1977, Zilberquit began playing the piano at the age of five and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied at the Moscow Conservatory with renowned pianist and teacher Lev Naumov, and later at the Juilliard School in New York City with Yoheved Kaplinsky. Zilberquit's career as a concert pianist began in earnest in the late 1990s, when she won several major international competitions, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Cleveland International Piano Competition in Ohio. These victories helped to establish her as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation, and she soon began to receive invitations to perform with major orchestras and at prestigious concert halls around the world. One of Zilberquit's most notable early performances was at the 2001 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, where she was a finalist and received critical acclaim for her interpretation of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. She also performed at the 2002 Ravinia Festival in Illinois, where she played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach. In the years that followed, Zilberquit continued to build her reputation as a soloist and chamber musician, performing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. She has collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Leonard Slatkin, and has appeared with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. Zilberquit's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by composers from Bach to contemporary composers such as John Adams and Philip Glass. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff, and has recorded several of his works for the Naxos label. Her recording of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was praised by critics for its "sensitive and nuanced" interpretation. In addition to her performing career, Zilberquit is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at institutions such as the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Moscow Conservatory. She is known for her passionate and insightful approach to teaching, and has mentored many young pianists who have gone on to successful careers in music. Zilberquit has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career, including the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2003. She was also named a Steinway Artist in 2004, and has been a Yamaha Artist since 2010. In 2018, she was awarded the Order of Friendship by the Russian government for her contributions to the arts. Despite her many accomplishments, Zilberquit remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform regularly around the world, and is committed to sharing her love of music with audiences and students alike. With her technical brilliance and deep musicality, she is sure to remain a beloved figure in the world of classical music for many years to come.
