Les Plaisirs du Parnasse is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for Baroque music. The ensemble is based in Paris, France, and is known for its authentic and dynamic performances of Baroque music. The founding members of Les Plaisirs du Parnasse were violinist Florence Malgoire, cellist Emmanuel Jacques, and harpsichordist Jean-Luc Ho. All three musicians had extensive experience performing Baroque music and were eager to create an ensemble that would showcase their talents and love for the genre. The ensemble's name, Les Plaisirs du Parnasse, is a reference to the Greek mythological home of the muses, and reflects the ensemble's commitment to creating beautiful and inspiring music. Since its founding, Les Plaisirs du Parnasse has grown to include a number of other talented musicians, including flutist Sébastien Marq, violist François Joubert-Caillet, and bassoonist Laurent Le Chenadec. The ensemble's core members have remained the same, however, and continue to lead the group with their passion and expertise. One of the highlights of Les Plaisirs du Parnasse's career was their performance at the Festival de Musique Baroque de Pontoise in 2006. The ensemble's dynamic and engaging performance of works by Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi earned them critical acclaim and helped to establish them as one of the leading Baroque ensembles in France. In 2008, Les Plaisirs du Parnasse released their debut album, "Les Plaisirs du Parnasse: Sonates pour violon et clavecin." The album, which features works by Bach, Handel, and Telemann, was well-received by critics and helped to further establish the ensemble's reputation as a leading interpreter of Baroque music. Over the years, Les Plaisirs du Parnasse has continued to perform at major festivals and concert halls throughout Europe, including the Festival de Musique Baroque de Versailles, the Festival de Musique Ancienne de Saintes, and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. In addition to their live performances, Les Plaisirs du Parnasse has also recorded several albums, including "Les Plaisirs du Parnasse: Sonates pour flûte et basse continue" and "Les Plaisirs du Parnasse: Sonates pour violon et basse continue." These albums showcase the ensemble's virtuosity and passion for Baroque music, and have earned them numerous awards and accolades. One of the most notable awards that Les Plaisirs du Parnasse has received is the Diapason d'Or, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the classical music industry. The ensemble was awarded the Diapason d'Or in 2010 for their album "Les Plaisirs du Parnasse: Sonates pour flûte et basse continue," which features works by Bach, Handel, and Telemann. In addition to their live performances and recordings, Les Plaisirs du Parnasse is also committed to educating and inspiring the next generation of musicians. The ensemble regularly conducts masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and is dedicated to promoting the study and performance of Baroque music. Overall, Les Plaisirs du Parnasse is a dynamic and passionate ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of Baroque music. With their virtuosic performances, innovative interpretations, and commitment to education and outreach, they have earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the leading Baroque ensembles in Europe.
