Floris De Rycker is a Belgian classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a lutenist, guitarist, and composer. Born in 1987 in Ghent, Belgium, De Rycker grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. His father was a guitarist and his mother was a singer, and they both encouraged him to pursue music as a career. De Rycker began playing the guitar at the age of six and quickly showed a talent for the instrument. He later discovered the lute and became fascinated by its unique sound and history. He began studying the lute at the age of 16 and went on to earn a degree in Early Music Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He has also collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including Jordi Savall, Philippe Herreweghe, and Paul Van Nevel. One of De Rycker's most notable performances was at the 2016 Utrecht Early Music Festival, where he performed a solo recital on the lute. The performance was widely praised for its technical virtuosity and emotional depth, and cemented De Rycker's reputation as one of the world's leading lutenists. In addition to his work as a performer, De Rycker is also an accomplished composer. He has written music for a variety of ensembles, including the lute, guitar, and chamber orchestra. His compositions are known for their intricate harmonies and use of traditional forms and structures. De Rycker has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2012, he won the first prize at the International Lute Competition in Toulouse, France.
