He was the youngest of three children and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His father was a pianist, and his mother was a singer, which inspired Norbert to pursue a career in music. Norbert started playing the piano at the age of five and showed exceptional talent from an early age. He was enrolled in a music school in Berlin, where he received formal training in piano and music theory. Norbert's talent was recognized by his teachers, who encouraged him to pursue a career in music. In 1968, Norbert was accepted into the prestigious Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and composer, Georg Katzer. Norbert's time at the academy was a turning point in his career, as he was exposed to a wide range of musical styles and techniques. He also had the opportunity to perform in front of large audiences, which helped him gain confidence as a performer. After graduating from the academy in 1972, Norbert began his career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation for his technical skill and musicality, and was invited to perform at some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe. Norbert's performances were always well-received, and he soon became a sought-after performer. One of Norbert's most memorable performances was at the Berlin Philharmonic in 1975. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the Emperor Concerto, with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Herbert von Karajan. The performance was a huge success, and Norbert received a standing ovation from the audience. Norbert's success as a performer led to numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1980, he was awarded the prestigious Clara Schumann Prize for his outstanding contributions to classical music. He was also awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin in 1995 for his contributions to the cultural life of the city. In addition to his career as a performer, Norbert was also a respected music educator. He taught at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music for many years, and was known for his ability to inspire and motivate his students. Many of his students went on to have successful careers in music, and Norbert was proud of their accomplishments. Norbert's career as a performer came to an abrupt end in 2005, when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The disease affected his ability to play the piano, and he was forced to retire from performing. However, Norbert remained active in the music community, and continued to teach and mentor young musicians. Norbert passed away on June 15, 2018, at the age of 68.
