Hans Werner Wätzig was a renowned classical music artist who made significant contributions to the world of music. He was born on August 22, 1939, in Berlin, Germany. His parents were both musicians, and they encouraged him to pursue music from a young age. Wätzig showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of six. Wätzig's musical education began at the Berlin Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer, Walter Gieseking. He later continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, where he studied with pianist and pedagogue, Carl Seemann. Wätzig's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly became one of the most promising young pianists in Germany. Wätzig's career as a concert pianist began in the early 1960s, and he quickly gained a reputation as a virtuoso performer. He made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1962, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a resounding success, and it marked the beginning of Wätzig's long and illustrious career as a concert pianist. Over the course of his career, Wätzig performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. In 1970, he was awarded the prestigious Order of Merit of Berlin, and in 1985, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was also a recipient of the Grand Prix du Disque, one of the most prestigious awards in the world of classical music. Despite his many achievements, Wätzig remained humble and dedicated to his craft throughout his life. He was known for his tireless work ethic and his unwavering commitment to excellence, and he inspired countless musicians and music lovers around the world with his performances. Sadly, Wätzig passed away on December 28, 2013, at the age of 74. His death was a great loss to the world of music, but his legacy lives on through his recordings and the countless musicians he inspired throughout his career.
