Stephen Somary is a renowned classical music artist who has made significant contributions to the world of music as a conductor, pianist, and educator. Born in Zurich, Switzerland, on August 22, 1947, Somary showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He went on to study at the Zurich Conservatory and later at the Juilliard School in New York City. Somary's career as a conductor began in the early 1970s when he was appointed as the assistant conductor of the Zurich Opera House. He quickly gained recognition for his talent and was soon invited to conduct orchestras in Europe and the United States. In 1975, he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic and was praised for his interpretation of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. Over the years, Somary has conducted many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated soloists of our time, such as Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Joshua Bell. One of Somary's most notable achievements was his appointment as the music director of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in 1987. He also conducted the orchestra on several international tours, including performances in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Somary's career as a pianist has also been impressive. He has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras and has recorded several albums of solo piano music.
