Jan-Erik Van Regteren Altena is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on 22nd September 1959 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. From a young age, Jan-Erik showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Jan-Erik began his musical journey by learning to play the piano at the age of six. He showed remarkable talent and quickly progressed to more advanced pieces. At the age of ten, he started playing the violin and soon became proficient in both instruments. He continued his musical education at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he studied under the guidance of renowned violinist Herman Krebbers. Jan-Erik's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he soon began to make a name for himself in the music world. He won several awards and competitions, including the prestigious Oskar Back Violin Competition in 1980. This win marked the beginning of his professional career as a violinist. Jan-Erik's career took off, and he began performing in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls. He has performed with many renowned orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many famous conductors, including Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Chailly, and Valery Gergiev. In 1985, he was awarded the Dutch Music Prize, the highest honor for a musician in the Netherlands.
