Camerata Schulz is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is named after Johann Abraham Peter Schulz, a German composer and conductor who lived in the 18th century and was known for his contributions to the development of German Lieder. The founding members of Camerata Schulz were violinists Anna-Lena Perenthaler and Katharina Wimmer, violist Johanna Kugler, cellist Johannes Flieder, and pianist Christoph Traxler. All of them were students at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna at the time and had already gained experience as soloists and chamber musicians. From the beginning, Camerata Schulz aimed to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music and to present it to audiences in a fresh and innovative way. The ensemble's members were united by their love for the music of the Viennese Classical period, but they also wanted to include works from other eras and styles, such as Romanticism, Impressionism, and contemporary music. One of the highlights of Camerata Schulz's early career was their participation in the 2013 International Chamber Music Competition in Thessaloniki, Greece. The ensemble won the first prize in the category of string quartets and was praised by the jury for their "outstanding musicality, technical precision, and communicative power." This success gave Camerata Schulz a boost of confidence and helped them to establish themselves as a rising star in the world of chamber music. Since then, Camerata Schulz has performed in numerous prestigious venues and festivals in Europe and beyond, such as the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, and the Festival Internacional de Música de Cámara de Aguascalientes in Mexico. The ensemble has also collaborated with renowned musicians and ensembles, such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Alban Berg Quartet, and the Hagen Quartet. One of the hallmarks of Camerata Schulz's performances is their attention to detail and their ability to create a cohesive and expressive interpretation of the music. The ensemble's members are known for their sensitive and nuanced playing, as well as their dynamic and communicative stage presence. They often engage with the audience and provide insights into the music they are playing, which helps to create a deeper connection between the performers and the listeners. Camerata Schulz's repertoire includes a wide range of works for different combinations of instruments, from solo pieces to chamber music for larger ensembles. Some of the composers they have explored in depth include Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and Shostakovich. The ensemble has also commissioned and premiered new works by contemporary composers, such as Johannes Maria Staud and Thomas Larcher. In addition to their concert activities, Camerata Schulz is also committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians and participates in community projects that aim to bring classical music to a wider audience. They believe that music has the power to inspire and unite people from different backgrounds and cultures, and they strive to share this message through their performances and activities. Overall, Camerata Schulz is a dynamic and versatile ensemble that has made a significant impact on the world of chamber music.
