Artist Info
Loadbang is a contemporary classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 in New York City. The group consists of four members: Carlos Cordeiro on bass clarinet, William Lang on trombone, Jeffrey Gavett on baritone voice, and Andy Kozar on trumpet. The ensemble is known for its unique instrumentation and innovative approach to contemporary music. The founding members of Loadbang met while studying at the Manhattan School of Music. They were drawn together by their shared interest in exploring new sounds and pushing the boundaries of traditional classical music. The group's name, Loadbang, is a term used in computer programming to describe a sudden, loud sound. It reflects the ensemble's desire to create music that is both powerful and unexpected. Loadbang's instrumentation is unusual for a classical ensemble. The group consists of a brass trio (trumpet, trombone, and bass clarinet) and a baritone voice. This combination allows the ensemble to create a wide range of textures and timbres, from delicate and ethereal to bold and brassy. Since its founding, Loadbang has performed at major venues and festivals around the world. The ensemble has been featured at the MATA Festival, the Bang on a Can Marathon, and the Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music, among others. Loadbang has also collaborated with a number of prominent composers, including Pulitzer Prize winner David Lang and MacArthur Fellow Julia Wolfe. One of Loadbang's most notable performances was its 2012 debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. The ensemble performed a program of contemporary works, including pieces by David Lang, Reiko Füting, and Scott Wollschleger. The performance was well-received by critics, who praised the ensemble's technical skill and musicality. Loadbang has also been recognized for its innovative approach to contemporary music. In 2014, the ensemble was awarded a Chamber Music America/ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award for its programming of new and experimental works. The award recognized Loadbang's commitment to pushing the boundaries of classical music and exploring new sounds and techniques. In addition to its performances, Loadbang is also dedicated to education and outreach. The ensemble has conducted workshops and masterclasses at universities and conservatories around the world, sharing its unique approach to contemporary music with the next generation of musicians. Loadbang's discography includes several critically acclaimed albums, including "Monodramas" (2013), which features works by David Lang, Hannah Lash, and Aaron Cassidy, and "The Breath Cycle" (2017), a collaboration with composer and multimedia artist Hannah Lash. The ensemble's recordings have been praised for their technical precision and emotional depth. Loadbang continues to be a leading voice in contemporary classical music, pushing the boundaries of traditional instrumentation and exploring new sounds and techniques. With its unique combination of brass and voice, the ensemble has created a distinctive sound that is both powerful and unexpected. As Loadbang continues to perform and record, it is sure to inspire and challenge audiences around the world.More....
