He was a prodigious talent and quickly developed his skills, impressing his teachers and peers with his ability to play complex pieces with ease. Cowan's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under some of the most renowned music teachers of the time. After completing his studies, Cowan began performing in various concerts and recitals across Europe. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented pianist, and his performances were highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. Cowan's ability to interpret and convey the emotions of the music he played was particularly noteworthy, and he became known for his expressive and passionate performances.
