The ensemble was established by a group of young musicians who were studying at the Fiesole School of Music. The founding members of the ensemble were all students of the renowned Italian violinist and conductor, Piero Farulli. The ensemble's early performances were mainly focused on chamber music, and they quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and innovative programming. Over the years, the ensemble has expanded its repertoire to include orchestral works, operas, and contemporary music. The main members of I Solisti di Fiesole have changed over the years, but the ensemble has always been made up of some of the most talented young musicians in Italy. Many of the ensemble's former members have gone on to have successful careers as soloists, conductors, and members of other prestigious ensembles. One of the highlights of I Solisti di Fiesole's early career was their performance at the Spoleto Festival in 1961. The ensemble's performance of Mozart's Divertimento in D major was so well-received that they were invited to perform at the festival again the following year. In 1963, I Solisti di Fiesole made their debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. The ensemble performed in a production of Mozart's Don Giovanni, conducted by the legendary Italian conductor, Carlo Maria Giulini. Over the years, I Solisti di Fiesole has performed with many of the world's leading conductors and soloists, including Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, and Martha Argerich. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most innovative composers of our time, including Luciano Berio and Salvatore Sciarrino. In addition to their performances, I Solisti di Fiesole is also committed to music education. The ensemble runs a music school in Fiesole, where young musicians can study with some of the most talented teachers in Italy. Many of the ensemble's former students have gone on to have successful careers in music. I Solisti di Fiesole has received many awards and accolades over the years. In 1991, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati, which is given annually by the Italian music critics' association to the best musical ensemble in Italy. The ensemble has also been awarded the Premio della Critica Musicale Franco Abbiati and the Premio della Fondazione Cini. Today, I Solisti di Fiesole continues to be one of the most respected and innovative classical music ensembles in Italy.
