Hans-Georg Priese was a renowned classical music artist who made significant contributions to the world of music. He was born on January 12, 1945, in Berlin, Germany. From a young age, Priese showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Priese began his musical training at the age of six, when he started taking piano lessons. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument, and his teachers recognized his potential. Priese continued to study piano throughout his childhood and teenage years, and he also began to explore other areas of music, such as composition and conducting. In 1963, Priese enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where he studied piano under the tutelage of Professor Dieter Zechlin. During his time at the conservatory, Priese also studied composition with Professor Ruth Zechlin and conducting with Professor Rolf Reuter. After completing his studies, Priese began his career as a concert pianist, performing in venues across Germany and Europe. He quickly gained a reputation for his technical skill and musical sensitivity, and he was soon in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. One of the highlights of Priese's early career was his performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1972. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish Priese as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Over the course of his career, Priese performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. He also collaborated with many of the most celebrated conductors of the 20th century, such as Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Claudio Abbado. In addition to his work as a performer, Priese was also a respected teacher and mentor. He held teaching positions at several prestigious music schools, including the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler, the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, and the Juilliard School in New York. Priese's contributions to the world of music were recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1985, he was awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin, and in 1992, he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was also a recipient of the Mozart Medal, the Beethoven Ring, and the Brahms Prize. Despite his many achievements, Priese remained humble and dedicated to his craft throughout his life. He continued to perform and teach until his death on June 22, 2010, at the age of 65. His legacy lives on through his recordings, which continue to inspire and delight music lovers around the world.
